So, as a group fitness instructor, I have struggled for the last 3 years to try and let people know about my group fitness classes and get people to show up. I would post things on Facebook, and try my best to let “word of mouth” advertising do its thing, but nothings was working. That is, until I started getting serious with using my SlickText Marketing account. See, if you aren’t familiar with how text message marketing works, it’s simply a way to text a large amount of people who have signed up to receive text messages from you. So this is what I decided to do to grow my class from about 5 regular attendees, to consistently getting over 20 regular members each and every class. Here is the first thing you need to do:
1. Get a Slicktext marketing account and create a keyword.
Just go to Slicktext.com and choose a plan that will work for you. Set up a keyword that will be easy for your customers to remember and that relates to your brand or business name. For example, my business is Joetopia! Fitness, so one of my keywords is Joetopia.
2. Create and run a Facebook AD and start promoting your keyword!
Make sure to make it clear for your customers the importance of them signing up for your text list. I always tell them that they will want to sign up to receive updates, cancellations and by doing so, their first class is free. You will be able to track how many sign ups you are getting with the SlickText dashboard. You will also get an email notification every time someone signs up.
3. Create your first promotion!
After a few days you will have grown your list and now you are ready to send out your first promotion or announcement. I always like to remind people 3 hours prior to my group class. Remember to let them know all the when, where, why, and how’s about the announcement. Don’t just assume people are going to know everything.
4. Run a Contest to help with class retention.
I always run a contest before every class. Slicktext makes it super easy to set up contests with the Text to Win Contests. Before every class, I send out a text message with an encouragement and a hint about what type of class we will be doing. My members know from me announcing this in class, that as soon as they get that message, they can reply back with my keyword, and they are entered into the class. This will create a custom auto reply that I set up in the contest settings. The system will then randomly choose a winner at a time that you specify. I always have it pick a winner just before class is over. My members love his feature and it helps keep people coming back week after week. I have also used the text to win feature to do product giveaways. You can literally use it for whatever you want and it is one of my favorite features that SlickText offers.
Some of the other handy features that Slicktext has, is their Facebook integration. You will have the option to have your text message that you send, also be posted on Facebook. This just helps with visibility for those who are not yet on your text list.
Another one of my favorite features of Slicktext is the scheduling a text feature. You can set any time and date for your message to go out. I like to get all my texts for the week done and out of the way early in the week so I”m not scrambling at the last minute to send out a text before my class. The scheduling feature makes this possible. Just a side note, to try and be consistent with the time you send your message. For me, I send out my texts at 3pm every day of class. My members expect to get this message and if I forget to send it out, my numbers are always a lot lower. Trust me, your clients will love that you started using Slicktext to keep in touch with them!
